The Eupora Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Ethel Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Eupora will be strutting in after a win while Ethel will be coming in after a loss.
Even though Eupora has not done well against Bruce recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Eupora walked away with a 61-52 victory over Bruce.
Meanwhile, Ethel had to suffer through a rough 72-31 loss at the hands of Choctaw County. While losing is never fun, Ethel can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while Choctaw County is ranked 63rd).
Eupora pushed their record up to 6-7 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.7 points per game. As for Ethel, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.
Eupora suffered a grim 82-59 defeat to Ethel in their previous meeting back in November of 2018. Thankfully for Eupora, D'Ayres Merritt (who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and six assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
