The Damonte Ranch Mustangs waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 67-56 victory over Galena. Given Damonte Ranch's advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Galena is ranked 50th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Damonte Ranch's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jiro Basabas led the charge by scoring 20 points along with seven assists and six steals. Basabas continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Anderson, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds.
Damonte Ranch's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.9 points per game. As for Galena, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-14 record this season.
Damonte Ranch does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Galena is on the road again on Wednesday and plays Reno at 7:00 p.m. on February 14th. Reno will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Galena surely won't give up without a fight.
