With a playoff game on the line, the Hobbs Eagles rose to the challenge on Friday. They breezed by Clovis at home to the tune of 50-13. Considering Hobbs has won five contests by more than 22 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Saul Armendariz continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 168 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries. Owen Callaway was another key contributor, throwing for 187 yards and three touchdowns while completing 90.9% of his passes.
Despite the loss, Clovis still got an impressive performance from Jett Stone, who rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries. Stone was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 64 yards.
The victory (which was Hobbs' fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-5. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Organ Mountain and 2-8 Carlsbad (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 28.9% over those games). As for Clovis, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
Hobbs will head out on the road to face off against Cleveland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cleveland has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 189 points over their last four matchups. Clovis does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
