Doral Academy has gone a perfect 5-0 against Gulliver Prep recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Doral Academy Firebirds will challenge the Gulliver Prep Raiders at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Doral Academy has four straight wins, Gulliver Prep has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Gulliver Prep's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Thursday: Doral Academy hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. Doral Academy blew past Miami 10-0 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Firebirds, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Marcelo Rodriguez looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (one).
At the plate, Dylan Prince was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Josh Cespedes, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI.
Doral Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .556 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Gulliver Prep came up short against ABF Academy Homestead on Wednesday and fell 8-3. That's two games in a row now that the Raiders have lost by exactly five runs.
Gulliver Prep also got a good showing from Nico Ribera, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Ribera has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Justin Parson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. Enzo Paesano also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Doral Academy's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Gulliver Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-13.
Gulliver Prep's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Doral Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .368. It's a different story for Gulliver Prep, though, as they've only averaged .242. Will they be able to contain Doral Academy's hitters?
Everything went Doral Academy's way against Gulliver Prep in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Doral Academy made off with a 12-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Doral Academy since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
