Akins is 0-9 against Bowie since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Akins Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Bowie Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Akins is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
Last Thursday, Akins came up short against Austin and fell 27-14.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Bowie beat Johnson 21-16 two weeks ago.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bowie to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cruz Tello, who rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown. Kayson Mathabela and his 109 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Bowie's victory.
Akins' defeat was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 14-1 Westlake and 6-1 Lake Travis (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 58.9% over those games). As for Bowie, their win two weeks ago bumped their record up to 3-4.
Akins was dealt a bruising 70-0 loss at the hands of Bowie when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Akins, Max Barnes (who rushed for 137 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
