After two games on the road, La Quinta is heading back home. They will be home for the holidays to greet the Palm Desert Aztecs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. La Quinta will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1083rd, while Palm Desert is ranked 243rd).
Last Tuesday, La Quinta came up short against Shadow Hills and fell 48-41.
Palm Desert has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 21 points or more this season. They took their matchup on the road on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 76-42 victory over Xavier Prep. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 44-19.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Palm Desert to victory, but perhaps none more so than Coby Christensen , who scored 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Wil Wilson , who scored 12 points along with three steals.
La Quinta has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Palm Desert, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.
Things could have been worse for La Quinta, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 54-39 loss to Palm Desert in their previous meeting back in January. Thankfully for La Quinta, Stephen Shuffleton (who scored 26 points along with nine rebounds and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
