5A District 4 recap October 8, 2013
Clovis and Goddard played the closest game in 5A District 4 this week, with Clovis eventually emerging with a 31-28 victory.
Carlsbad took down Rio Grande 50-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Elijah McCoy ran for 146 yards and caught 5 passes for 44 yards during the win.
The Cavemen's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Rodney Holcon threw for 94 and 1 touchdown and McCoy had 44 yards receiving. On the ground McCoy contributed 146 yards. Trevin Ramirez helped Carlsbad's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 31 yards.
McCoy provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Carlsbad beat the Ravens.
McCoy was the best running back in the league this week. Teammate Holcon added to the ground attack by rushing for 46 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Ron Arrington's team's Holcon and Ramirez have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-5 quarterback Holcon has thrown for 1,236 yards this season, while Ramirez has 36 catches for 395 yards. The Wildcats' Kamal Cass leads the league in rushing yards with 917.
Cass of the Clovis is only 83 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 121 carries Cass has accumulated 917 yard this year.
The Cavemen led 5A District 4 in scoring this week after putting up 50 points on Rio Grande. McCoy in the win.
