Gonzales and North Salinas are an even 3-3 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The two teams will round out the year against one another at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at. North Salinas took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Gonzales, who comes in off a win.
Gonzales' nine-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end last Monday. They breezed by Ceiba College Preparatory Academy at home to the tune of 70-31. That 70-31 margin sets a new team best for Gonzales this season.
Meanwhile, North Salinas' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. The match between North Salinas and Everett Alvarez wasn't particularly close, with North Salinas falling 64-50. North Salinas has not had much luck with Everett Alvarez recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Despite the defeat, North Salinas had strong showings from Demajae Roberson, who scored seven points along with six assists, and David Jauregui, who scored eight points. Those six assists set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Shane Taylor, who scored nine points.
Gonzales' victory ended a 13-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-5. As for North Salinas, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-6.
Gonzales took a serious blow against North Salinas in their previous matchup back in February, falling 66-38. Thankfully for Gonzales, Daniel Jauregui (who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
