Declo hasn't had much luck against Malad recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Hornets will head out to square off against the Dragons at 3:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Tuesday, Declo earned a 9-5 win over Wendell. The Hornets have beaten the Trojans the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Trojans has come to flipping the script.
Makendrie Harris spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 12 Ks.
On the hitting side, Declo got a massive performance out of Teagan Wickel, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI Wickel has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Saige Wickel, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Declo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Malad entered their tilt with Declo on Tuesday with 14 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 15. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Hornets. The Dragons' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last four contests.
Aubrey Shulz was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Bostyn Combs, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Malad pushed their record up to 24-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Declo, their victory bumped their record up to 10-12.
Declo might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Malad in their previous meeting on Tuesday. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
