On Friday, The Murtaugh Red Devils faced the Lighthouse Christian Lions in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Murtaugh blew past Lighthouse Christian 63-30 at home. The result was nothing new for Murtaugh, who have now won five games by 33 points or more so far this season.
Jr. Benites went supernova for Murtaugh, rushing for 302 yards and seven touchdowns while picking up 9.7 yards per carry. Benites was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 69 yards. Soyer Young was another key contributor, rushing for 80 yards on only ten carries.
Despite the loss, Lighthouse Christian saw an underclassman step up: Johnny Millenkamp rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
Murtaugh's win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Lighthouse Christian, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-3 record this season.
