Football Recap: Gladewater's Punishing Run Game Keeps Rolling

Gladewater had won four straight at home, but on Friday they bumped up to 9-1 to make it five. They blew past the White Oak Roughnecks 42-20. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won six matchups by 22 points or more so far this season.

Gladewater got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Achilles Hess out in front who threw for 176 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushed for 47 yards and one TD. Those 176 passing yards gave Hess a new career-high. Carsin Cooper was another key back, rushing for 126 yards and one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Gladewater was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 271 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 167 rushing yards in 15 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

As for White Oak, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 717th, while Gladewater is ranked 135th).

Despite the loss, White Oak still got an impressive performance from Jaxsen Ludlow, who threw for 280 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 11.7 yards per attempt, and also punched in one rushing score.

Looking ahead, Gladewater will square off against Mount Vernon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bears' defense better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 36.4 points per game this season. White Oak does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
