Saturday just wasn't the day for Verdugo Hills' offense. They came up short against Westlake on Saturday, falling 10-0.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Kennedy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top against Poly by a score of 12-7 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Parrots: they've now won six in a row.
Anais Perez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Perez was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kennedy got a massive performance out of Sarah Olague, who went 1-for-3 with six stolen bases and two runs. Those six stolen bases gave Olague a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mia Salgado, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Kennedy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Kennedy's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Verdugo Hills, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9-1.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Verdugo Hills hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like Kennedy struggles in that department as they've averaged .315. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Verdugo Hills suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Kennedy when the teams last played back in April. Can the Dons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
