Shore - South B recap October 22, 2013
Monsignor Donovan's Joey Fields rumbled for the longest rushing play in Shore - South B this season in his game against Pinelands Regional last week. Fields' team defeated the Wildcats as he sprinted for 99 yards on the play and finished with 133 in all.
Barnegat extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Central Regional, 23-7. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Bengals.
Cinjun Erskine provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Barnegat beat the Golden Eagles. He completed 8 passes for 104 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 90 yards. Erskine's key target this week was Ricky Gerena, who caught 3 passes for 49 yards.
Devin Tomei and Amani Richardson gave Manchester Township a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Tomei threw for 41 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Richardson ran for 154 yards. Teammate Tomei added to the ground attack by rushing for 75 yards.
Barnegat's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Bengals feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Erskine has thrown for 497 yards and 6 touchdowns this season, while Manny Bowen has 10 catches for 231 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Central Regional takes on Lakewood. At the moment, Willie Jacobs' team is in third, while the Piners are in second.
The Hawks were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in Shore - South B. Earlier in the week, Manchester Township triumphed over Point Pleasant Boro 34-17.
