Doherty has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Liberty Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Doherty's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 12 games.
On Saturday, Doherty faced the Terrors in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Doherty strolled past the Terrors with points to spare, taking the game 71-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Doherty can attribute much of their success to James Pulliam, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds, and Elijah Mack, who almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine rebounds. Pulliam continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Solomon Latimer, who scored four points along with nine rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Liberty's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They were dealt a 74-31 loss at the hands of Doherty. While losing is never fun, Liberty can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while the Spartans are ranked 25th).
London Praytor put forth a good effort for the losing side as he went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points and 0 assists. That was a full 58.1% of Liberty's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Doherty's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.6 points per game. As for Liberty, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Doherty have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Liberty struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Doherty against the Lancers when the teams last played on Thursday as the team secured a 74-31 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Praytor, who went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points and 0 assists. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Doherty still be able to contain Praytor? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
