Basketball Recap: Henry Napper's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Saranac over Northeastern Clinton

Saranac was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 53-49 heartbreaker at the hands of the Northeastern Clinton Cougars. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 59-34 back in December of 2024.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Henry Napper, who posted 15 points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists. Those five assists gave Napper a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carson Duffield, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards.

Saranac's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Northeastern Clinton, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Saranac will square off against Moriah at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Moriah knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten games -- so hopefully Saranac likes a good challenge. As for Northeastern Clinton, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Northeastern Clinton Cougars face off against the Northern Adirondack Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
