The Excelsior Charter Eagles will face off against the La Puente Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Excelsior Charter walked away with it. They walked away with a 68-60 victory over the Pirates on Wednesday. The win was just what Excelsior Charter needed coming off of a 80-40 defeat in their prior game.
Excelsior Charter can attribute much of their success to Izaiah Black, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and two steals, and Julian Cora, who scored 22 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Cora is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jevon Gordon Jr, who scored six points along with three blocks.
Meanwhile, La Puente had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.1 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Wednesday. They came out on top against The Palmdale Aerospace Academy by a score of 67-54.
Excelsior Charter's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-12. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.4 points per game. As for La Puente, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-11 record this season.
