The power rankings have experienced a modest tune-up after last week's playoff battles. Among the games was a one-point thriller between Memphis Central and Cordova.
Can't Touch This
Lausanne Collegiate's 62 - 28 win over Goodpasture Christian last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Eric Gray. Gray earned four touchdowns and 201 yards rushing the ball. That performance landed Gray among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
On paper, the match between Maryville (6th in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Bearden (27th) looked as though it might be one of the more compelling ones, but things did not play out that way on the field. Maryville breezed past Bearden with a final score of 28 - 7. Despite Maryville's win, the team was passed up by other teams in the power rankings and gave up one spot in the rankings.
Movin on Up
Cane Ridge was the big favorite in its game against Franklin last week, and for good reason. Everything went Cane Ridge's way against Franklin as it secured a 41 - 6 win. No one had a larger role in the success than senior Devon Starling, who brought his A game into the contest. He ran for 161 yards and also punched in one touchdown. The team's efforts were enough to boost its power ranking by eight, which was the most sizeable gain made by any team in the rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Mount Juliet (17th in the power rankings) and Blackman (14th). The teams have their eyes fixed on the championship after last-week playoff conquests. Given their high-scoring efforts against their previous opponents, we'll see how far they can run the score up this week.
