Softball Recap: Lawrence County Extends Winning Streak to Four

Lawrence County extended their postseason success on Friday against Forrest County Agricultural. They blew past the Aggies 14-0. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Marleigh Grace Russell was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Lawrence County let Addie Raye Pennington and GG Sanders run wild. Pennington went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Sanders went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Sanders has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Erika Lambert, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Lawrence County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Forrest County Agricultural only posted an OBP of .200.

The victory (which was Lawrence County's fourth in a row) raised their record to 18-11. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Forrest County Agricultural, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 20 of their last 21 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-28 record this season.

Lawrence County will square off against Pass Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Forrest County Agricultural does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
