The Hondo Owls entered their tilt with the Cotulla Cowboys with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Hondo secured a 24-20 W over Cotulla on Friday. Given Hondo's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 434th, while Cotulla is ranked 915th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hondo was led to victory by Ryan L gilliam and Dj Richter. L gilliam picked up 157 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Richter rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown. L gilliam's longest reception was for an incredible 77 yards.
Hondo's victory was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.6 points per game. As for Cotulla, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Hondo will square off against Poteet at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Poteet is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Cotulla, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Jourdanton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Jourdanton has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 414 points over their last nine matchups.
