After flying high against the Trinity Tigers on Saturday, the S & S Consolidated Rams came back down to earth. S & S Consolidated took a 66-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tom Bean on Tuesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
S & S Consolidated lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ricardo Marquez, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Joe Orr, who scored 17 points along with five steals.
Even though they lost, S & S Consolidated were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Branson Ashlock, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds for Tom Bean. Ashlock hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. CJ Richter was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
S & S Consolidated bumped their record down to 5-10 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for Tom Bean, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.
S & S Consolidated will be home for the holidays to greet Sanger at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Sanger presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than S & S Consolidated in Texas (Sanger is ranked 281st, while S & S Consolidated is ranked 1207th). Tom Bean will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Chisum at 8:00 p.m. on December 15th. Chisum and Tom Bean are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads.
