It was a good run, but the Catholic Memorial Knights unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Friday. They lost to Mater Dei on the road by a decisive 87-69 margin. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Leading Mater Dei to victory were Brandon Benjamin and Brannon Martinsen. Benjamin dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Martinsen dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Benjamin also posted eight assists for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Davidson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Catholic Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 8-1. As for Mater Dei, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 19-1.
Catholic Memorial will head out on the road to challenge St. John's Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. John's Prep will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Massachusetts Rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Catholic Memorial is ranked first). As for Mater Dei, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Santa Margarita at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Santa Margarita is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
