The Malvern Hornets entered their tilt with the Southern Indians with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Malvern took down Southern 35-20 on Friday. That's another feather in the cap for Malvern, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Malvern's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jared Witherow, who threw for 203 yards and three touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Witherow was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 53 yards. Dylan Phillips was another key contributor, picking up 124 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Malvern's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 10-1. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 33 points. As for Southern, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.
Malvern will face off against St. Paul at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in St. Paul's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last four contests. Southern does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
