The Liberty Hill Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Bastrop Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Liberty Hill will be strutting in after a win while Bastrop will be coming in after a defeat.
Liberty Hill entered their tilt with Lockhart with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Liberty Hill strolled past Lockhart with points to spare two weeks ago, taking the game 56-41. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Liberty Hill to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ben Carter, who rushed for 189 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Pitchford, who gained 165 total yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Bastrop came up short against Lockhart on Friday and fell 28-17. Bastrop has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Bastrop's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Keyshon Moore, who rushed for 157 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.5 yards per carry, and Ladainian Merino who rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown. Moore was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 52 yards.
Liberty Hill's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 Cedar Creek and 3-5 Lockhart (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 33.3% over those games). As for Bastrop, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Everything came up roses for Liberty Hill against Bastrop in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 61-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Liberty Hill since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
