Thornwell dropped their record down to 7-7 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Ware Shoals Hornets, falling 12-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-2 two weeks ago.
Camden Nelson was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and nine unearned) runs off eight hits. Nelson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Madi Porter made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Karleigh Porter was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
As for Ware Shoals, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.
Like Thornwell, Ware Shoals also got a great game from a two-way player: Stella Eichhorn. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. That's the most strikeouts Eichhorn has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paisley Pelfrey, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Bella Davis also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Thornwell will take on rival Abbeville at 4:15 p.m. on the 25th. Meanwhile, Ware Shoals is set to square off against their familiar foe Whitmire at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
