ROWLAND HEIGHTS, Calif. - After trading leads four times,
Walnut (Calif.) snatched the lead for good when
Chase Clark ran for a touchdown in the third quarter, paving the way for victory over
Rowland (Rowland Heights, Calif.) 26-21.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Nathaniel Sanchez to
Matthew Orozco, the Raiders went into halftime with a 21-12 lead. The Mustangs took the lead for good with a touchdown run by Clark in the third quarter.
The final outcome was shocking, as Walnut was ranked No. 812 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for California, far below Rowland's spot at No. 561.
WHS also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 38-26.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Mustangs, who were coming off a 42-14 defeat at the hands of Covina in its previous game. The loss was the third in a row for RHS.
Rowland (2-3) goes up against Bonita in a Hacienda game matchup next week, while Walnut (2-3) locks horns with Bonita also in a Hacienda game.
