East Union is 8-2 against Myrtle since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The East Union Urchins will venture away from home to challenge the Myrtle Hawks at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Myrtle will be up against a hot East Union team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. East Union walked away with an 8-5 win over West Union on Wednesday.
Lily Kate Johnson was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Johnson was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Marley Clayton, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. Madi Robbins was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Myrtle is still undefeated this season after their game against West Union on Wednesday, but West Union came as close as anyone has to beating them. Myrtle skirted past West Union 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hawks have posted against the Eagles since March 23, 2019.
Ally Murphy was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Murphy is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Shelby Thompson also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Myrtle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .350 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
East Union's record is now 2-0. As for Myrtle, their record now sits at 4-0.
East Union was able to grind out a solid win over Myrtle in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 7-2. Does East Union have another victory up their sleeve, or will Myrtle turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
