The Wayne Pioneers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 71-55 to Chapmanville Regional. While losing is never fun, Wayne can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Chapmanville Regional is ranked 33rd).
Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cooper Adkins, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. Adkins continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Isaac Meddings, who scored 16 points.
Wayne bumped their record down to 2-8 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Chapmanville Regional, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wayne will take on Grace Christian at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Chapmanville Regional won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Scott at 7:00 p.m. on January 10th. Scott has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
