Even though the New Milford Green Wave have not done well against the Notre Dame Catholic Lancers recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. New Milford managed a 41-37 win over the Lancers. Given New Milford's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Lancers are ranked 91st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Notre Dame Catholic's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kendra Mitacek, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. Mitacek is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Niah Africot, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Notre Dame Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. This was only their tenth loss (out of 14 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
New Milford is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for Notre Dame Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 4-13.
New Milford will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Rebels at 6:00 p.m. As for Notre Dame Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kolbe-Cathedral will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
