Cascade has gone 8-2 against Newport recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Cougars are taking a road trip to take on the Cubs at 5:00 p.m. Cascade is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Cascade came out on top against Stayton on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run sixth inning. The Cougars' pitchers stepped up to hand the Eagles a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Malia Scanlan was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Pearl Pruett, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Cascade kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 11 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Newport came up short against Philomath on Monday, falling 20-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cubs have suffered against the Warriors since April 12, 2018.
Ivy Ruddiman was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Cascade pushed their record up to 14-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Newport, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.
Newport's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Cascade has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Newport, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Cascade keep running through batters, or will the Cubs buck the trend?
Cascade might still be hurting after the 14-7 loss they got from Newport when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
