After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Eads, the Springfield Longhorns were happy to have found some success on Friday. They came out on top against Granada by a score of 30-21. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 11 to 3 on the offensive boards, as Springfield did.
It was another big night for Bay Ellis, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Karina Garcia, who scored three points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Granada lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being ToriLin Riddle, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Riddle continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Granada struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Springfield pushed their record up to 5-2 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Granada, they have fallen quite a ways from their 20-5 record last season and are now at 2-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springfield won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Cheyenne Wells at 2:00 p.m. on January 6th. Hopefully Cheyenne Wells focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Thursday. Granada won't have much time to rest: their next game is against La Veta at 2:00 p.m. on January 6th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (La Veta is ranked 202nd, while Granada is ranked 186th).
