Big Sandy scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They claimed a resounding 80-50 win over Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central at home. The win was some much needed relief for Big Sandy as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Big Sandy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cole Pierpoint, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds. Pierpoint has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Barnes, who scored 18 points along with five assists.
Meanwhile, McKenzie came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central 85-51 on the road. McKenzie has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Big Sandy's win bumped their record up to 3-9. As for McKenzie, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Things could have been worse for Big Sandy, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 79-60 loss to McKenzie in their previous meeting back in February of 2023.
