Madison Southern saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lexie Keener, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another was McKenna Daughdrill, who scored two runs and stole two bases.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Mercer County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top against West Jessamine by a score of 8-5.
Ava Musick was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed eight innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Musick was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaley Bowman, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Mia Floro was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Mercer County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.
Madison Southern's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Mercer County, their win bumped their record up to 9-6-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Madison Southern hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Mercer County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
