Muncie Central extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-6. They came up short against the Winchester Community Falcons, falling 18-4. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bearcats of the 24-6 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.
Abrielle Morton was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. That run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Clair Riddle, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
As for Winchester Community, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-8. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Winchester Community's side, Ava Lanter was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. Lanter has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Winchester Community got a massive performance out of Aviana Ramos, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles Ramos has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Raye Lewis, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Coming up, Muncie Central will challenge Marion at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bearcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Giants have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season. As for Winchester Community, they will square off against Centerville at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
