5A Portland recap Oct. 3, 2012
Wilson's Cory Hincks rumbled for the longest rushing play in 5A Portland this season in his game against Jefferson last week. Hincks' team bested the Democrats as he sprinted for 63 yards on the play and finished with 205 in all.
Wilson extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Jefferson, 49-6. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Roosevelt's dynamic duo of Carl Lockridge and Antonio Bella proved tough for Benson Tech to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Lockridge threw for 113 yards and two touchdowns and Bella had 78 yards receiving. Billy Nelson helped Roosevelt's passing attack out by catching one ball for 18 yards.
The Roughriders' Kimane Domena and Bella have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Domena has thrown for 776 yards this season, while Bella, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 28 catches for 559 yards. Hincks from the Trojans leads the league in rushing with 992 yards.
Hincks of the Wilson is only eight yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in 5A Portland this week will be when Roosevelt takes on Madison. Christian Swain's team is currently in second, while the Senators are in third.
Cleveland and Franklin played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Cleveland eventually emerging with a 15-12 victory.
