Baseball Game Preview: Basic Wolves vs. Spring Valley Grizzlies

Basic is a perfect 5-0 against Spring Valley since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wolves will venture away from home to take on the Grizzlies at 3:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Basic has three straight wins, Spring Valley has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Basic is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Arbor View, who was ranked fifth at the time (Basic was ranked first). The Wolves blew past the Aggies 7-1 on Friday. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.

Basic got a great performance from Noah Sebastian as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Dallon Cegavske, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tate Southisene, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Basic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Spring Valley came up short against Shadow Ridge on Friday, falling 9-3.

Basic pushed their record up to 12-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Spring Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9-2.

Basic took their victory against Spring Valley in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-6 score. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Grizzlies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
