2A Catawba Valley recap Oct. 3, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Draughn, who took down 197th ranked Bunker Hill, 28-21.
Newton-Conover was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in 2A Catawba Valley. The Red Devils beat East Burke 7-6 earlier in the week.
South Iredell's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Davin King threw for 76 yards and Michael Fisher had 69 yards receiving. On the ground Rasheed Degree chipped in 70 yards. Jaylon Stockton helped South Iredell's passing attack out by catching three balls for seven yards.
South Iredell's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Vikings feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. King has thrown for 813 yards and nine touchdowns this season, while Evan Dancey has 18 catches for 231 yards. Degree leads the league in rushing with 601 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Maiden takes on Bandys. The Blue Devils are in fourth place, while the Trojans are in second place.
The Vikings extended the longest winning streak in 2A Catawba Valley this week by beating Maiden, 33-10. The victory was the fifth in a row for South Iredell.
