The Pueblo South Colts's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their ninth straight defeat. They received a tough blow as they fell 41-27 to Cheyenne Mountain. The contest was a 20-20 toss-up at halftime, but Pueblo South couldn't quite close it out.
Even though they lost, Pueblo South smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Ainsley Norton was nothing short of spectacular for Cheyenne Mountain: she scored 31 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Norton has scored at least a third of Cheyenne Mountain's points.
Pueblo South's loss was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-14. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.9 points per game. As for Cheyenne Mountain, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pueblo South will square off against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Cheyenne Mountain, they will head out on the road to take on the Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lutheran presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Red-Tailed Hawks in Colorado (the Lions are ranked 83rd, while the Red-Tailed Hawks are ranked 243rd).
