7A District 9 recap October 29, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Northeast, who defeated 422nd ranked Clearwater, 42-35.
Fans got a thrill when Trent Chmelik and Slyvester Kimbrough connected against Seminole. The connection went for 59 yards, the longest such play in 7A District 9 this season.
Countryside's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Chmelik threw for 187 and 1 touchdown and Kimbrough had 74 yards receiving. On the ground Mike Johnson contributed 186 yards. Chris Ryan helped Countryside's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 65 yards.
Johnson was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 186 yards on 17 carries as the Cougars beat the Warhawks. Dante Satcher also contributed to the rushing game with 81 yards on the ground.
Countryside's Robby Hicks and Kimbrough led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Hicks has thrown for 769 yards this season, while Kimbrough has 23 catches for 364 yards. Pinellas Park's Pierre Johnson leads the league in rushing yards with 832.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Jared Davis' team's Kimbrough goes up against the Patriots' Rashaan Watson.
Next week's game between the Cougars and Pinellas Park will feature an aerial matchup as Hicks tests his arm against Watson's defensive ability.
A big matchup in 7A District 9 this week will be when Kenneth Crawford's team takes on Countryside. The Patriots are currently in second, while the Cougars are in third.
The Vikings scaled the state rankings by moving to 415 from 441 this week, the biggest jump in the league. Northeast was able to move up by topping the Tornadoes 42-35.
