The Basha Bears's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight defeat. The game between them and Hamilton wasn't particularly close, with Basha falling 63-44. While losing is never fun, Basha can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Huskies are ranked third).
Despite the defeat, Basha saw an underclassman step up: Grace Beckler dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. That was a full 45.5% of Basha's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Audrey O'Connor, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Hamilton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Callie Hinder out in front who scored 11 points along with four blocks. Hinder has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last six times she's played. Breanna Sommers was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals.
Basha's defeat was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 10-14. As for Hamilton, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 19-5.
Basha won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Hopefully Chandler focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Tuesday. As for Hamilton, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Pumas at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd.
