The Fletcher Senators are taking a road trip to square off against the Episcopal School of Jacksonville Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Fletcher took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They put the hurt on Bolles with a sharp 9-2 win.
Nick Oliviera made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Oliviera was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other pitching news, Colton Coto looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Oliviera wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ben Taylor, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, Taylor posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Jakeb McDougall was another, scoring three runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Episcopal School of Jacksonville). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Stanton a 14-0 shutout on Tuesday. With that victory, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Matthew Devine looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jack Ottesen was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2. Eric Monti also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
Episcopal School of Jacksonville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Stanton only posted an OBP of .333.
Episcopal School of Jacksonville pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Fletcher, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Fletcher was able to grind out a solid victory over Episcopal School of Jacksonville in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, winning 10-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fletcher since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
