The Manteo Redskins will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Holmes Aces at 6:30 p.m. Manteo is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
Manteo suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. Their rough 63-41 defeat to Hertford County might stick with them for a while. Manteo found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up 17 fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite their defeat, Manteo saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Sydnee Ballance, who scored 26 points along with six rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. That was a full 63.4% of Manteo's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Jazmine Cooper was another key contributor, scoring five points along with 20 rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Manteo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Holmes scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They breezed by Camden County at home to the tune of 64-33. That 31 points margin sets a new team best for Holmes this season.
Manteo has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for Holmes, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
Manteo came up short against Holmes in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 39-26. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Holmes' Ellie Spear, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Now that Manteo knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
