Softball Recap: Make It Six in a Row for Madison

Madison entered their tilt with Mitchell on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They never let the Mountaineers get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by ten runs or more this season.

Carrie Gunter was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Madison got a massive performance out of Addie Sams, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one double. Maddie Gosnell also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Madison kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive matches.

Madison's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Mitchell, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Madison will take on rival Draughn at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Mitchell is set to challenge their familiar foe Avery County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
