Florida State University High School got a good showing from Brayden Wood, who tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Wood has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Brayden Smith made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Zach Tubbs also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Leon put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against North Florida Christian as Leon made off with a 12-5 victory. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won four matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Hayden McNeill made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit over four innings pitched. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Evans Franco, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Kolbe Baker was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Florida State University High School's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Leon, their win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Florida State University High School has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Leon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Florida State University High School might still be hurting after the 9-3 defeat they got from Leon in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Florida State University High School avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
