Softball Recap: Southern Door Has No Trouble Against Wrightstown

Southern Door lost to Wrightstown back in May of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Eagles blew past the Tigers 12-2. With that win, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Samantha Melville made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ashlyn Delfosse was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Madyson Counard, who went 2-for-4 with three runs.

Southern Door was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matches.

Southern Door pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Wrightstown, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-11 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern Door will venture away from home to take on Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blazers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Wrightstown, they will head out on the road to square off against Fox Valley Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
