Foothill is 1-9 against Coronado since November of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:00 p.m.
Foothill is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Bishop Gorman, who was ranked first at the time (Foothill was ranked 12th). The Falcons came up short against the Gaels on Monday, falling 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Falcons have suffered since September 17th.
The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 25-15, 25-18.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Coronado, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. Everything went their way against Durango on Monday as they made off with a 3-0 victory. The Cougars not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since September 4th (when they won 3-0).
The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Coronado was: they took every set by at least ten points. The final score came out to 25-12, 25-14, 25-15.
Foothill's loss dropped their record down to 11-13. As for Coronado, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Monday's contest: Foothill has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.2 aces per game. However, it's not like Coronado struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.6 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Foothill came up short against Coronado in their previous meeting back in September, falling 3-1. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
