The Portal Panthers put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They snuck past Statesboro with a 60-56 win. Given Portal's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Statesboro is ranked 78th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Amir Jackson was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Portal's points. Another player making a difference was Joseph Thomas, who scored 14 points along with 6 rebounds.
Portal's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.5 points per game. As for Statesboro, their loss dropped their record down to 4-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Portal will face off against Effingham County at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Effingham County is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Statesboro, they will head out on the road to face off against Richmond Hill at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
