The Bessemer City Yellow Jackets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight defeat. They took a hard 71-54 fall against Burns. Bessemer City lost against Burns in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 82-38 score last time.
Burns got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Colby Putnam out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Putnam also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Kamari Surratt, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Bessemer City has not been sharp recently as the team has lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-19 record this season. As for Burns, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bessemer City will challenge Highland Tech at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bessemer City is coming into the contest with six straight defeats on the road, meaning Highland Tech will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. As for Burns, they will challenge East Gaston at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Burns knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 13 contests -- so hopefully East Gaston likes a good challenge.
