Having just played yesterday, the Sun Valley Spartans will get right back to it and host the Monroe Redhawks at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Sun Valley came into Tuesday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Weddington on Tuesday as Sun Valley made off with a 59-34 victory. With that win, Sun Valley brought their scoring average up to 50.3 points per game.
Tyra Robinson was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with five rebounds and four steals. She is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for four games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylen Henry, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
Monroe fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They came out on top against Anson by a score of 39-31 on Tuesday.
Monroe's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Saniya Gingham, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Gingham hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Saniya Wallace, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Sun Valley's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-10. As for Monroe, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 6-12 record this season.
Wednesday's match is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Sun Valley have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Monroe struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Sun Valley against Monroe in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 61-13 win. With Sun Valley ahead 41-6 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
