South Bend Riley hasn't had much luck against South Bend Saint Joseph recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wildcats will look to defend their home field against the Huskies at 5:30 p.m.
South Bend Riley is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Saturday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Michigan City. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Wildcats have suffered since May 11, 2024.
South Bend Riley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dominic Damp, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Damp has brought in this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Bend Saint Joseph). They were the clear victors by an 18-1 margin over Buchanan on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won nine games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Easton McFarland looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, South Bend Saint Joseph got a massive performance out of Brett Mason, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Mason has posted since back in May of 2024. Joe Washburn was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
South Bend Saint Joseph kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buchanan only managed three hits.
South Bend Riley's defeat dropped their record down to 3-12. As for South Bend Saint Joseph, their win bumped their record up to 13-2.
South Bend Riley might still be hurting after the 18-0 loss they got from South Bend Saint Joseph when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
