If the Milby Buffs were riding high off their 49-27 takedown of the Wisdom Generals last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Milby took a serious blow against Madison on Friday, falling 96-60. Milby has struggled against Madison recently, as their game on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Milby lost, one person who can't be blamed is Daniel Cantu. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cantu has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Washington, who scored six points.
Leading Madison to victory were Anthony Avalos and Joe Whylie. Avalos scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and six assists, while Whylie dropped a double-double on 26 points and 13 rebounds. Whylie hasn't dropped below 15 points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Marquez Hubbard-chenault, who scored ten points along with nine assists and six rebounds.
Milby has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-17 record this season. As for Madison, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 19-7.
Milby will look to defend their home court on Monday against Sterling at 6:00 p.m. Sterling knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 21 matchups -- so hopefully Milby likes a good challenge. As for Madison, they will head out on the road to face off against Waltrip at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Waltrip will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 852nd, while Madison is ranked 334th).
